Dozens of demonstrators who were part of a Black Lives Matter rally marching in Manhattan, New York City were arrested around 9 p.m. on Wed. June 3 between East 50th St., 3rd Ave. and East 51st St., 3rd Ave. They were arrested for violating an 8 p.m. nightly New York City curfew that began to deter rioting and looting amid the ongoing protests in the city. NYPD blocked their movement at both ends of the block as marchers rallied heading downtown. Amid a sudden rain shower, a line of NYPD cops on bicycles wearing black protective padding and helmets started riding down 3rd Ave. at East 51st St. to make arrests as another group of cops made arrests at the end of the block at East 50th St. As arrests were being made, some protestors kneeled and raised their hands saying, “Hands up, don’t shoot.” The arrested were put in NYPD vehicles including a bus and transported away. The arrests occurred amid ongoing protests in New York City and nationwide following the death of George Floyd.
